ESR 4 - Cell-membrane penetrable glycopolymer anchors

My research project will be focused on the design of sugars containing block copolymers that can be incorporated in artificial cell membranes. Glycopolymers provide specific recognition behaviour towards selected membrane proteins and they play key role in the cell-specific targeted drug delivery. Therefore, various carbohydrate sequences will be developed within this project.  

Also the ratio of hydrophilic to hydrophobic content will be investigated as it plays a pivotal role in the formation of glycovesicles and glycomicelles. Thus, the major accomplishments expected include the synthesis of amphiphilic synthetic block copolymers, consisting of mannose and galactose acrylate-based monomers copolymerised with a number of lipid compounds for use in functional liposome and polymersome studies. .
